At the Faculty of Law discussed the development of the Legal Aid Institute in Ukraine

On December 2 there was a discussion of problems considering a development of Legal Aid institution in Ukraine and Great Britain’s experience in this field. The discussion took place in terms of a specialized educational course “Legal English Skills and Introduction to Legal English Practice” given by the honorary research fellow of the University of Liverpool Kiron Reid.

This time the educational course had a guest from Great Britain, postgraduate student of the University of Liverpool, Steven Andrew, who has 2-year experience in government agency of Great Britain “Legal Aid Agency”. It has its offices in many cities and villages of England and Wales, it also has huge staff (1450 workers) and helps more than 2 million people every year to solve legal issues. Urgent and important questions of the present time were discussed during the event: service of public defender on criminal cases, improvement of legal aid by investments in staff development, and also Great Britain’s experience in giving legal aid online. Participants of the event paid special attention to an issue of implementation of standards for legal aid in terms of the work of the Legal Clinic at Zaporizhzhia National University. Experience of the leading world countries will definitely help to develop a Legal Aid institution in Ukraine and improve the work of the Legal Clinic at Zaporizhzhia National University.
