The workers of Training and research Laboratory of modern history of Ukraine and innovative educational technologies take an active part in realization of the projects by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, European Council, European Union, and they also initiate their own projects and provide the realization of these projects.

All-Ukrainian Association of Teachers of History, Civic Education and Social Studies “Nova Doba” and International Renaissances Foundation project "New approaches for history education in multicultural society. Preparation of the educational module for the students of history departments" (2011)

    Project tasks:

    – To prepare materials to the educational module «History teaching in the multicultural society conditions» for historical faculties students of Ukrainian universities;

    – To approve educational module materials during Summer school for teachers, pedagogical university's lectures and students;

    – To perfect and spread the module materials among historical faculties, Ukrainian History departments and History teaching methodology departments of Ukrainian higher educational establishments.

State grant "Testing technologies in Humanities education", № 12/11, № ДР 0111U000102 (2011-2012)

The basis for research work "Testing technologies in Humanities education" is the order of the Ministry of Education and a science of Ukraine № 1177, the 30-th November, 2010.

Term of performance: the beginning – since 01.01.2011, the ending – 31.12.2012.

The project's aim is creation the multilevel technologies for students' educational achievements control from history and social science on previous, thematic, final stages. It is necessary to execute next tasks for object achievement:

1) to work out the testing theory from history and social science, based on the general testology achievements;

2) to ground methodology and technology of test constructing from social science in accordance with the level of diagnostics (reproductive, reconstructive and creative levels);

3) to work out the test results interpretation technology;

4) to give out the manual from test constructing theory and technology;

5) to conduct the control pedagogical experiment in Zaporizhzhya schools and Zaporizhzhya national university for theory and technology testing approbation and improvement.

State grant "Testing of educational achievements from history and social science" (2009-2010)

The basis for research work "Testing of educational achievements from history and social science" is the order of the Ministry of Education and a science of Ukraine № 1043, the 17-th November, 2008.

Term of performance: the beginning – since 01.01.2009, the ending – 31.12.2010.

The project purpose is creation the testing conception, strategy and technology of pupils' and students' educational progress assessment from history and social science. It is necessary to execute next tasks for object achievement:

1) To analyze practice of testing in Ukraine;

2) To generalize foreign experience of testing;

3) To develop the testing conception from history, social science and its practice realizations' mechanism;

4) To develop testing tasks methodology and testing results interpretation methodology;

5) To develop methodological manual for tests' composers and teachers of history and social science;

6) To carry out pilot control pedagogical experiment for working hypothesis check at Zaporizhzhyan schools and University.

The Trial Independent External Evaluation – 2010

According to planned schedule of state budget theme (grant) "Testing in History and Humanities School progress" Laboratory prepared for "Trial independent external evaluation" from History of Ukraine, which was held in Zaporizhzhya National University 25 April 2010. The test tasks were assembled in such form as Ukrainian Center of education quality evaluation will be use during "Independent external evaluation – 2010". The test tasks were assembled in such form as Ukrainian Center of education quality evaluation will be use during "Independent external evaluation – 2009". Program of European Union and Council of Europe "Promotion to developing of the human rights culture in Ukraine and South Caucasia " - 2008

Head of the Laboratory Sergiy Terno have participated in the project's direction “Teachers training provides the multicultural education preparation At Pedagogical Universities and In-service Institutes” as expert. There were three workshops: "New approaches to tolerance training in conditions of multicultural and multiconfessional society", which was held the Ministry of education and science of Ukraine and Council of Europe 21-22 April 2008 in Lviv (Ukraine); "Reflection of national identity and cultural diversity in curriculums, handbooks and manuals of History" 21-23 May 2008 in Chernigiv (Ukraine); "New approaches for multicultural and multiconfessional education" 3-4 July 2008 in Mukachevo (Zakarpattya region, Ukraine). Project's results are put in chapter "The scientific publications" of this site.


The project of the Laboratory of Interactive Technologies Study Humanities-state budget “Critical thinking at History Lessons in Secondary School” (№12/06, № DR 0106U000590)

1.The ground for carrying out the works:
The ground for scientific-research work “Critical Thinking at History Lessons at Secondary School” is the order issues by the Ministry of Education and Science in Ukraine № 654, the 16-th of November, 2005.

The term of fulfillment starting-since 01.01.2006, finishing 31.12.2008.

2. The aim and imprint for carrying out of the works.

The aim of the project is the creation of pedagogical influence system, which promotes the development of critical thinking among the pupil of senior forms during History Studying.

To achieve this aim it's necessary to solve the following tasks:

  1. to held an ascertain pedagogical experiment with the aim to examine the pupils on the subject of critical thinking skills;
  2. to work out didactic materials for pupils' critical thinking development (tasks-books in History, in which you can find the system of exercises and the rules of strategy realization and base devices of critical thinking);
  3. working out of the methodical text-books for teachers, in which you can find the teaching methods of pupils' critical thinking development at secondary schools;
  4. to held the forming pedagogical experiment with the aim to further the projected system of pedagogical influence and approbation of didactic and methodical text-books;
  5. to carry out a test pedagogical experiment with the aim to test the effect ness of the pedagogical influence system, which was worked out, and this system provide the development of pupils' critical thinking.

The state of the problem

In Ukraine the problem of critical thinking development among pupils is very actual and it needs urgent ways of its solving. The experiments, which were held in the 80-ties of the 20-th century, demonstrated that the most of the pupils and students at pedagogical universities (over 80%) have no such logic thinking skills as analysis, synthesis, classification, generalization, comparison. Since then no serious methods haven't been used to correct this situation. First, such state of the given problem is a threat for democratic perspectives in Ukraine; second, it causes making up absurd decisions by future citizens, and the consequences of this decisions will influence the next generations, third the competitiveness of Ukraine in the world is decreasing, as the 21-st century will be the time, when the very mental abilities of people, but not the nature resources, capital and technologies, will define the final verge between success and fail, leaders and the persons, who are led. So, absolutely naturally, education workers must take care of the preparation the future citizens for the making logically thought decisions and living in the situation of fast changes in the world.

Ideas and hypothesis of the project

Not taking into consideration the fact, that the main aim of the history education is announced as the development of history thinking, we should admit the absence of valuable realization of the given aim into school process Studying History is very often turned into the remembering the dates, battles and historical papers at secondary school. But don't know why we forget that historians don't become prominent specialists only because of being like walking encyclopedias full of dates, names, battles and historical papers. Almost everywhere only the persons, who do nothing but remember the dates, names est. are considered excellent students. But not the pupils, who have learnt the formulae for everlasting life or have learnt to answer the questions in our text-books, become the real promoters of social progress. The pupils, who can put the problem, are different from the pupils, mentioned above. We can appreciate them, in most cases, if the problems which they regard are really important.

What must we do for our pupils to turn them into real promoters of social progress? It seems to us, it's necessary to work out and to carry out research tasks into studying and to create appropriate pedagogical situation which would further the development of the following qualities of the personality: synthetic thinking (i.e. ability to see the relations, which cannot be observed directly) the ability to call in question stable principles and ideas; reasonable risk; tolerable attitude to his (her and other's people's mistakes; searching for the problems, which needs creative efforts; the ability to define and redefine problems, est.

In what way can these tasks look like in practice?

First, you can suggest giving pupils an opportunity of their own solving of the definite problems, which were solved once by out standing historical persons. The pupils must prove their opinion. Second, you can carry out the solving of know problem tasks to test the ground of these or those historiography appraisals. Third, you can train the pupils doing exercises in retroalternativistics (construction of alternative screens of the development of real events in the past. Fourth, you can make attempts to define and redefine the problems, which they come across in the past (search of not noticed problems in the past or right solving not the same problems). Thus, the research hypothesis means the providing of the critical thinking development among pupils with the help both of doing the tasks and know-problem tasks which concern the generalization and using the notions, and the best of the ground of historiography appraisals, etc. as well.

Expected scientific and scientific-technical results

The creation of the definite system of pedagogical influence, which are to help the critical thinking development must become the direct result of the scientific-research work. The projected system should be reflected in methodical text-books for teachers and didactic text-books for pupils. The instillation of such system of historical education is going to be a midterm result. This system should be perspective and based on two principles

The forming of skills to orientate properly in the current information, which is growing fast and moreover and to find necessary data

The forming of skills to think over and use the received information

The improving of Ukrainian citizens ability to think fruitfully the increasing of society cultural level must become a long-term result. The strategic aim and the result, corresponding to it is the increasing of the school graduates level as a citizen, transition from the levels of thinking when all the appraisals are considered to be the same, but the true is regarded relative, up to the superb ones, which suppose the possibility to state grounded opinions about true knowledge and it's peculiarities.

The main result is educational system of critical thinking development during History teaching, which was represented in didactic manuals for pupils of 6-11 forms (with stamp "Approved" of Ministry of education and science of Ukraine).


The project “Civil Education-Ukraine” March, 2005-March 2008.

The Head of the Laboratory participates in the project “Teachers training provides the civil education preparation At Pedagogical Universities and Post-graduate Institutes” as short-term expert.

The general aim of the project is consolidation of Civil Education in Ukraine with focus on the 9-11 year forms (10-12 year forms according the new 12- year study system). The project provides the elements of Civil Education into social-humanitarian subjects, which will be studied during 10-12th year: Economy, Law and Philosophy, History and the compulsory subject during the 12 year. It's called “Human and world”.

The concrete tasks of the project:

  • the consolidation of the existing curricula in Civil Education;
  • the providing of preparation on Civil Education at pedagogical universities and post graduate institutes;
  • complex approach to Civil Education teaching, which will take into consideration the children with special needs and their teachers;
  • support of the activity of associations and teachers' unions as for Civil Education;
  • support of out-of-school measures for extending of democratic principles.
  • The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine Project

    For 2003/2004 the Head of the Laboratory worked in the project of the Ministry of Education and Science “Curricula for 12-year secondary education.” The work at the State Standard of the Base and Completed Secondary Education was rewarded with a Diploma of the Ministry


    European Council Projects

    The Laboratory Workers took part in the common projects of European Council and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, for example, the international seminar “New approaches to preparation of the text-books in World History for secondary and senior school in Ukraine” (September - October 2003), the international seminar “Modern curricula in History for secondary educational establishments in Ukraine: challenges and replies” (July 2004, Lvov), the international scientific symposiums under the aegis of European Council “1945” (October 2003, Yalta), “1989” (April-May 2004, Budapest).
