Volodymyr Shovkoshytnyi: “Ukraine will look just the way we dream it to be. So, dare to dream!”

Vice deputy chairman of the National Ukrainian Writers Association, renowned writer and public figure Volodymyr Shovkoshytnyi paid visit to ZNU, where he presented his books and recounted of the most captivating moments in his biography.

Volodymyr Shovkoshytnyi has four higher education diplomas and qualifications of geographer, geologist, atomic engineer, political scientist and a man of letters.  For more than 11 years he has been working at Chornobyl Nuclear Power Station and took part in eliminating the damage  of  Chernobyl disaster (1986), having become later the founder and chairman of ‘Chernobyl Union’  International Liquidators Association, with its members residing in 32 countries.

The writer’s life path is full of remarkable moments, among which: Verkhovna Rada deputy (1st convocation) and an amazing gift for his birthday on July 16, 1990 – ratification of Ukraine’s  Independence Declaration, which comprises several lines, written by Volodymyr Shovkoshytnyi.

The guest shared his life motto with the students and professors, which goes like this: “Ukraine will look just the way we dream it to be. So, dare to dream!” and thanked professors by saying: “It is not only the profession that you teach your students, but you educate them to be real Ukrainians.  The significance of your efforts can scarcely be overestimated”. The audience gave a storm of applause to the verses by Volodymyr Shovkoshytnyi from his collections “Touch the Heaven” and “Heavy Cross”.  In addition the author presented his novel in short stories - “Glimmer of vanishes” and production of “Ukrainian Priority” Publishing House, founded by the author.

In the end Mr. Shovkoshytnyi gave some of his books and samples of Publishing House production to ZNU Scientific Library.
