June 1, International Scientific and Practical Conference on “Power Efficient Universities” was launched in ZNU. At the very beginning First Vice Minister Yevgen Sulima,  Zaporizhzhya mayor Oleksandr Sin, Deputy Chairman of Zaporizhzhya Regional State Administration Petro Goncharuk and ZNU Acting Rector  Oleksandr Bondar  along with other ZNU Vice Rectors had a tour round campus building #2, where heat supply optimization system is installed.

Vice Rector for Maintenance and Supply Sergiy Kushnir represented to the audience the development elaborated by the experts from ZNU Laboratory of Power Efficiency and Energy Savings, allowing ZNU to cut heat and hot water supply costs and explained its structure and mode of operation.

The attendees had opportunity to check Automated Control Unit. Heat flow control allowed to join together the buildings located at academic campus into single network. In this way the University reduces over HRN 500.000 per each heating season.

The guests have shown significant interest in brand-new water boiler. To compare, the old (dismantled) boiler’s size covered up to half of the premises, whereas the new one, composed of three 4-meter pipes, supplies hot water to academic campus. Once the pipes have been replaced, heat losses vanished.

Yevgen Sulima stressed: “The conference taking place at Zaporizhzhya National University has the goal to catch the attention of top administrators across HEIs of Ukraine on power efficiency issue. Rise of gas and energy costs proves those administrators aware of the prospects are able to cope with the present-day problems.  The event will provide rectors from our higher education institutions with opportunity to exchange their own experience in power efficiency sector”.
