The First Festival of Bandura and Folk Embroidery at ZNU

October 12, the assembly hall of ZNU І Academic building gathered admirers of folk art. The celebration «Sing, My Bandura, with Hundred Voices and Let Embroidery to Bloom!« prepared by ZNU Center for Cultural Work, was attended not only by the students of our university, but also representatives from neighboring universities.

The first Vice-Rector, Docent Oleksandr Bondar congratulated all those present and thanked the organizers of the event. He noted that the university administraton always welcomed the initiatives related to the preservation and development of folk art.

Director of the public enterprise «Regional Methodical Center of Culture and Art» of the Zaporizhzhya Regional Council Natalya Sidorenko noted that she was pleasantly surprised at the students' interest in the festival. Especially because their colleges — the national vocal ensemble «Golden Seeds» of The University of Luhansk visited the fest. She also invited everyone to take part in Festival of the Intercession on the Khortitsa, which is going to be held on October 14.

Even before the festival audience noticed the remarkable exhibition of embroidered towels and shirts, which graced the hall. Honorable guest of the festival — Honored Master of Folk Art of Ukraine, Member of the National Union of Masters of Folk Art of Ukraine, Head of the Creative Association of Artists of Ukrainian Folk Embroidery»Blooming Viburnums» Rose Kutasevich told the audience about the symbolism of embroidered and major folk customs and beliefs associated with the Ukrainian embroidery. The very same festival of bandura art started by the performance of the teacher of the Zaporizhzhya Children's Music School № 2 Natalya Balaban. The audience broke into rapturous applause after the performance of the bandura-quartet of Zaporizhzhya Children's Musical School № 1 (director — Natalya Lisenko) and bandura duet of Zaporizhzhya Children's Musical School № 7 Ekaterina Kakoylo andMaragarita Yuhnik , (director — Lyudmila Kakoylo).

The guests from Lugansk with their perfomance eneded the festival. The Folk Vocal Ensemble «Golden Seeds» of the Lugansk National Agrarian University (director — Driya Stukalskaya ) — 12 girls and boys in festive national costumes — performed some famous folk songs.
