The administration, teaching staff and students of Zaporizhzhya National University expresses sincere condolences on the death of Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor, Rector of Zaporizhzhya National University (then - Zaporizhzhya State Pedagogical Institute - from 1979 to 1984), a talented scientist and teacher, deeply decent and respected man Yuriy Vasylyovych Ivashchenko.
Yuriy Vasylyovych Ivashchenko born February 4, 1930 in Sumy region, Romney. He graduated from high school with honors. From 1946 to 1954 - the soldier officer of automotive school in Romney. 1956-1961 - secretary of the Komsomol Trust "Zaporizhbud", and from 1959 - Secretary of Zaporizhzhya City Komsomol Committee. From 1955 to 1963 he studied by correspondence at Rostov University at the History Department. In the 1963-1964 - the headmaster of the school of young workers. From 1969 to 1979 - Deputy Head of Propaganda Zaporizhzhya Regional Committee. Do not leave the main work, prepared and defended in 1977 his thesis and received a Ph.D. degree in History.
Taking into account his experience, high intellectual level, the Ministry of Education of Ukraine invited him to take the post of Rector of Zaporizhzhya Pedagogical Institute. It was under his leadership (1979-1984) was improved relevant material and scientific basis for the creation of a state university. Then for six years, Yuriy Vasylyovych led Ternopil Pedagogical Institute. There also received the title of Professor. Also worked in Zaporizhzhya National Technical University.
In this sad hour we sincerely sympathize family and relatives, friends and colleagues of the deceased. It is difficult to overestimate the importance of Yuriy Vasylyovych as a Rector of Zaporizhzhya National University for the establishment and development of the university. No less respect is the breadth of his scientific interests, that during his teaching activities, Yuriy Vasylyovych able to prepare whole galaxy of talented students. The memory of this man will always be with us.
