October 17 at Zaporizhzhya National University held informative and educational event "Street Eurouniversity", organized by the World Policy Institute with the support of the International Fund "Renaissance". Within the "Street Eurouniversity" in ZNU held an exhibition of cartoons, theme papers which cover the most important issues of Europeanization. The event was supported by the British Embassy in Ukraine within the initiative "Stronger together".
In an official opening ceremony participated Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador in Ukraine Simon Smith, Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on European integration issues Iryna Gerashchenko, First Vice-Rector of ZNU Oleksandr Bondar, Director of the Institute of World Policy Alyona Getmanchuk, Deputy Director of the Institute of World Politics Sergiy Solodkyj and regional coordinator of the campaign "Yevronastup" Dmytro Kharkov.
The event also attended by representatives of the administration of ZNU, students, teachers, representatives of various media and citizens of our city.
The moderator of the event was Director of the Institute of World Policy Alyona Getmanchuk. She congratulated all those present at the event and thanked to ZNU for support in handling the "Street Eurouniversity".
On behalf of the university leadership to the university honored guests and participants also addressed First Vice-Rector of ZNU Oleksandr Bondar. He noted, that this event is of great interest to youth, because today issues of European integration has become quite topical for Ukraine and everyone should understand that the benefits for our country will bring signing of an association agreement with the European Union.
Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador in Ukraine Simon Smith told the audience at the event about the benefits of Ukraine's accession to the European Union. So, he said that every European country has the right to join the European Union and the signing of this association - is the way to further development of relations between Ukraine and the union of democratic European countries, and the first step of joining our country to European Union.
On the benefits of European integration also said Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on European integration issues Iryna Gerashchenko, and regional coordinator of the campaign "Yevronastup" Dmytro Kharkov noted that the event "Street Eurouniversity" gives an opportunity to look at the benefits of EU membership for Ukraine through creative works presented at the exhibition.
At the end of the event all the participants were able to put questions to honorable guests of ZNU and examine the exhibition.
Figures presented in the exhibition illustrate two different realities in more than twenty dimensions of social, economic and political life in Ukraine and the EU countries. The illustrations were created in order of the Institute of World Policy, by famous Ukrainian artists - Maryna Turovska, Kostyantyn Kazanchev, Igor Bezhuk and Oleksiy Kustovskyj.
It should be noted that "Street Eurouniversity" is a metaphorical name of public events, in which leaders of public opinion and experts from relevant topics are able to communicate directly with ordinary citizens. Such events as part of the "Street Eurouniversity" has been held in Kiev, Odessa, Dnepropetrovsk, Vinnitsa, Chernigov, Nizhyn, Poltava, Kremenchug, Sumy, Konotop, Kirovograd, Krivoy Rog, Nikolaev, Kherson, Cherkasy, Zhytomyr, and now - in Zaporizhzhya.
