Integration of Gender Component into the Field of Education

“Integration of Gender Component into the Field of Education” round-table discussion and presentation of text-book “Basics of Gender Theory” were held in Zaporizhzhya National University under the framework of regional action “Integration of Gender Component into the Field of Education” organized by the Faculty of Social Pedagogy and Psychology.


“The program of Equal Opportunities of UNDP”, Zaporizhzhya Region State Administration and “Centre of Civil and Social Initiatives” foundation were the co-organizers of this action. Gender Issues Counsellor of Minister for Family, Youth and Sport of Ukraine, co-author of the presented text-book, PhD (Law) Tamara Mel’nyk and “The Program of Equal Opportunities of UNDP” Administrative Assistant Volodymyr Mors’ky were invited as guests of honour. “Integration of Gender Component into the Field of Education” round-table discussion was the main activity of the regional action. Rector of ZNU, Doctor of Sciences (History), Prof. Sergiy Tymchenko also took part in discussing the problems of equality of men and women. He suggested the realization of pilot projects on gender problems in Zaporizhzhya National University.


Under the moderation of Doctor of Sciences (Pedagogy), Head of the Chair of Pedagogy and Psychology of ZNU, Prof. Lyudmyla Mishchyk and Assoc. Prof. of ZNU, PhD (Pedagogy) Tetyana Holovanova many acute problems were discussed at the round table. The disputants accentuated many times on the fact that equality of male and female rights is the problem of human rights. Moreover, it is a condition of social justice provision, of equality, development and peace implementation. According to Tetyana Holovanova, gender approach is the educational technology, which aims at formation of professionally important qualities of future specialists’ personality. Other scientists – Head of the Chair of Philosophy of ZNTU, PhD (Sociology) Ol’ga Bondarenko, Senior Lecturer of the Chair of Sociology of ZNU Nataliya Omel’chenko, Doctor of Sciences (Philology) Professor of the Chair of Foreign Literature of ZNU Viktoriya Pogrebnaya, Assoc. Prof. of University of the Humanities “ZISMG”, PhD (Philology) Olena Poda – also investigated the peculiarities of introducing gender approach into vocational training of students. Valentyna Vasyl’yeva, the Head of“Centre of Civil and Social Initiatives” foundation, noted that partnership between universities and public institutions will only contribute to such an introduction.


Presenting the text-book “Basics of Gender Theory”, his co-author Tamara Mel’nyk stressed that despite the innovations in the field of humanization of national educational system, the problem of gender approach introduction into vocational training of students hasn’t found proper scientific substantiation. Given text-book will stimulate the surmounting of such an inconsistency owing to clear and precise presentation of the essence of gender, systematization of its fundamentals and ways of functioning in various field of society, Counsellor of Minister said.



 Under gender relations the relations between a man and a woman, which are based on cultural stereotypes concerned with their sex, are meant. Gender is a cultural characteristic of behavior that is cultivated in accordance with a sex in a certain society, in certain time; that’s the set of social roles.
