In the context of application of Bologna process principles to the Ukrainian system of higher education, in 2005/2006 academic year Zaporizhzhya National University started the development of tests package that will be used for computer examination in future. The seminar for representatives of all ZNU faculties who are responsible for elaboration of such tests was held on December 7.

The seminar was conducted by Gennadiy Dobrovol’s’ky, the leading engineer of web-laboratory of ZNU Data-Processing Center. It was aimed at acquainting the specialists who are working on such tests with peculiarities of formulation of questions: they must be well-defined and clear to present no additional difficulty for students. The audience also learned the rules of test tasks designing and studied some aspects of copyright protection when publishing educational texts in Internet. Materials of the seminar (methodical guideline, test development requirements) can be found at

The work in this direction is underway in accordance with Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine Decree #1-9-398 of August 1, 2005. It stipulates that the structure of educational and methodic editions must include tests as well as questions for knowledge control. Application of information technologies is another important requirement of Bologna process. At present, complex tests for initial, instant and summary knowledge control in a number of disciplines are developed in the university. For that purpose workgroups were created at university chairs, the members of which are working on tests in different disciplines. More than 20 such test complexes were developed during the year of 2005, while a fair number of them being yet in developmental stage.
