Grand Session Of ZNU Academic Council And Festive Meeting On 75th Anniversary Of ZNU

March 17-18 was the culmination point of celebrating 75th Anniversary of ZNU – grand session of ZNU Academic Council was held in V.G. Magar’s Zaporizhzhya Region Academic Ukrainian Music And Drama Theatre.

Opening the session, ZNU Rector Professor Sergiy Tymchenko congratulated lecturers, staff and students and wished every new success to them. He reminded everyone briefly of the most important milestones in the history of our university, underlining that ZNU doesn’t slow down in its development today, trying to keep up to date. Deputy Head of Zaporizhzhya Region State Administration Mykola Frolov, Deputy Head of Zaporizhzhya Region Soviet Oleksandr Berezhnyy, Deputy Mayor Oleksandr Kuz’min and Head of Zhovtnevyy District Administration Petro Zubkov also delivered their speeches, as well as the guest from Germany – member of Magdeburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Honoured Doctor of ZNU Gunter Ilper.

Many lecturers and employees received diplomas, presents and other rewards. After ceremonial part there was a concert of Inna Gapon, prize-winner of international contest “Zolota Trembita”, who was performing together with her father – People’s Artist of Ukraine Oleksandr Gapon.

The celebration continued on March 18. Speaker of Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Volodymyr Lytvyn visited Zaporizhzhya National University on festive occasion.  In his speech the honorable guest has many times stressed on the important role our university played and continues playing in formation and development of higher education in our glorious land of Cossacks. He presented ZNU with Honorary Diploma of Verkhovna Rada, accentuating on the fact that it was the first time in the history when the whole collective received such a diploma. 

First Vice-Rector of ZNU, Doctor of Sciences (History), Professor Fedir Turchenko, Head of the Chair of General and Slavonic Linguistics, Doctor of Sciences (Philology), Professor Viktor Chabanenko and Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Languages, PhD (Philology) Kateryna Ruzhyn received Honorary Diplomas of Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for great services to the Ukrainian people and on jubilee occasion from the Speaker.

Volodymyr Lytvyn also presented our rector with text-book in History of Ukraine of his own authorship for ZNU library.

Head of Zaporizhzhya Region State Administration Yevgen Chervonenko read personal congratulations from President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko. He presented best workers with jubilee medals “For Development Of Zaporizhzhya Region”, honorary diplomas and prizes from ZRSA.

Vice-Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Mykhaylo Stepko also expressed his fair graters and presented rewards.  After that the floor was given to other honorable guests – Mayor of Zaporizhzhya Yevgen Kartashov, Head of Supervisory Board of ZNU, People’s Deputy of Ukraine Sergiy Sobolyev, Head of Council of Rectors of Zaporizhzhya Region, ZNTU Rector, Professor Sergiy Byelikov, President of Zaporizhzhya Region Union of Industrialists nad Businessmen Petro Vanat.

Valeriy Kozyryev, Head of ZNU Graduates Association “Intelekt”, presented the painting of ZNU buiding I. 

Anniversary celebration ended with bright concert, organized mainly by amateur art groups of ZNU. Performance by well-known Zaporizhzhya singer and composer Anatoliy Serdyuk,  who sang several songs accompanied by music of his own, including new anthem of ZNU (lyrics by V.A. Chabanenko),was the culmination of it.

New exposition, dedicated to the history of the university opened in ZNU Museum, located in building I. There also was anniversary book “Zaporizhzhya National University: The Past And The Present (1930-2005)” (“Dyke Pole” publishing house) was published in 2000 copies.
