Biography

Omelianchyk L. was born in Vinnytsia region. In 1977 she graduated with honors from the Zhytomyr Pharmaceutical College, and in 1982 with honors - the Faculty of Pharmacy of the Zaporizhzhya State Medical Institute (SSI). From 1982 to 1985 she studied in graduate school at Zaporizhzhya State Medical Institute. In 1985, she defended her PhD thesis on: "The synthesis and biological properties of carbonyls of 9-thioacridon and its etox-, nitro-derivatives" in the specialty 15.00.02-"Pharmaceutical chemistry and pharmacognosis".

In 1989 Omelianchyk L. started working in the Zaporizhzhya National University (ZSU). In 1992 she defended her doctoral dissertation on the topic: "Synthesis, physicochemical properties and biological activity of S- and N- derivatives of acrydine, quinoline, pyridine". From 1992 to 2001 she managed the Department of Biochemistry and Immunology, taught a course of chemistry in the ZSU. From 1994 to 1997 he was the Dean of the Faculty of Biology, and from 1997 to 2000 - Vice -Rector for Educational Work of the ZSU. Since 2004 - Dean of the Faculty of Biology. With 2004 to 2014 headed the Department of Chemistry of Biology Faculty of Zaporizhzhya National University (ZNU). In 1995, she was awarded the title of Professor of the Department of Biochemistry and Immunology with a chemistry course. In 2007 he was elected academician of the National Academy of Higher Education of Ukraine. Scientific and pedagogical experience-42 years.

Research work

L.O. Omelyanchyk heads a scientific school in the field of Bioorganic Chemistry. The main research focus of the school is «The search for biologically active compounds of synthetic and plant origin, and the study of their physicochemical properties and biological activity».

The outcomes of the school’s activities include the development of biologically active substances of synthetic and plant origin based on nitrogen- and sulfur-containing derivatives of azaheterocycles, as well as research in organic, bioorganic, and pharmaceutical chemistry. Under her supervision, numerous term papers and master’s theses have been completed, 10 PhD and 1 doctoral dissertation have been defended, and she has led 8 state-funded and 4 contract-based research projects.

She is the author of more than 500 scientific publications, including 25 inventor’s certificates, 45 patents, 10 monographs, 1 textbook approved by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, 350 articles in peer-reviewed journals (including 28 indexed in Scopus and 15 in Web of Science), as well as 85 methodological publications. Under the leadership of Liudmyla Oleksandrivna Omelyanchyk, a number of national and international conferences have been organized and conducted.

Until 2019, she served as Editor-in-Chief of the professional journals «Visnyk of Zaporizhzhia National University» and «Issues of Bioindication and Ecology» as well as the electronic journal «Current Issues in Biology, Ecology and Chemistry». Since 2021, she has been a member of the editorial board of the professional journal «Acta Biologica Ukrainica. «She is the head of the jury of the Junior Academy of Sciences (chemistry section), head of the regional chemistry Olympiad jury, a member of the jury of the All-Ukrainian Student Chemistry Olympiad, a member of the Specialized Academic Council D 17.600.03 at Zaporizhzhia State Medical University, and a member of ad hoc specialized academic councils at Zaporizhzhia State Medical and Pharmaceutical University and Zaporizhzhia National University.

She is a member of the Expert Council of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine (section «Biology, Biotechnology and Current Issues in Medical Sciences») and an expert in reviewing school chemistry textbooks for the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine; a member of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Higher Education of Ukraine; Head of the professional division «Chemistry, Chemical Technologies and Pharmacy» of the NAS HE of Ukraine; Chair of the «Teacher of the Year» competition jury in Chemistry; and an expert in pharmaceutical products at PJSC FF «VIOLA».

For her significant personal contribution to the development of education, training of highly qualified specialists, and many years of dedicated work, she has been awarded the Certificate of Appreciation of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine (2006) and Honorary Diplomas of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine (2004, 2008, 2015); the medal «For the Development of Zaporizhzhia Region» (2007) and the III degree medal (2022); the badge «Excellence in Education of Ukraine» (1995); numerous certificates and acknowledgements from regional authorities and university administration; as well as academic awards, including the Orders of Saint Volodymyr (2017), Yaroslav the Wise (2016), «For Scientific Achievements» (2018), and others.

In 2013-2016, she was annually awarded the First Degree Diploma in the university competition “Best Scientist of the Year» in the «Professors» category. She was also awarded the Order of the NAS HE of Ukraine «Cross of the Liberator» (2025).
