Born in Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine.
In 2004, graduated with a master’s degree in biology from the Faculty of Biology at Zaporizhzhia State University, earning a diploma with honors.
From February 2004, worked as a laboratory assistant in the Scientific Research Laboratory of Biotechnology of Physiologically Active Substances, under the supervision of Prof. O.A. Brazhko, Doctor of Biological Sciences.
From 2004 to 2007, studied full-time in the postgraduate program at Zaporizhzhia National University, specializing in 02.00.10 “Bioorganic Chemistry.”
In 2008, defended a candidate’s dissertation titled “Biological Activity of S-Substituted Derivatives of 2-Methyl-4-Mercapto-8-Methoxyquinoline” in the specialized scientific council at the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry and Petrochemistry of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (Kyiv). Scientific supervisor: Prof. Liudmyla Oleksandrivna Omelianchyk, Doctor of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
Participated in the preparation of tasks for the trial multi-subject test in chemistry according to established requirements (both offline and online via Moodle, ongoing until 2024).
Since 2007, served as an Assistant in the Department of Chemistry at Zaporizhzhia National University (ZNU); in 2010, promoted to Senior Lecturer in the Department of Chemistry; in 2012, appointed Associate Professor of the Department of Chemistry; in 2014, awarded the academic title of Associate Professor of the Department of Chemistry; since 2017, serves as Secretary of the Scientific and Technical Council of the Faculty of Biology; as of September 2, 2024, appointed Acting Head of the Department of Chemistry.
Academic and teaching experience: 17 years.
Gencheva V.I. is actively engaged in research work at the Laboratory of Biotechnology of Physiologically Active Substances. She participates in the development of synthesis methods and in the creation of a virtual screening database of quinoline derivatives based on computer-aided prediction data. She has synthesised more than 50 compounds and investigated their biological properties. She continues her research focused on the search for new biologically active substances.
She actively participates in university, interuniversity, and international scientific conferences, as well as in the preparation, discussion, and publication of scientific and educational-methodological materials.
Under her supervision, course papers and master’s qualification theses have been completed. In 2025, she served as an official reviewer of the PhD dissertation by Yanina Ihorivna Romanenko entitled «Biologically Active Derivatives Based on 2(4)-Substituted Quinoline,” submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the field of knowledge 09 – Biology, speciality 091 – Biology and Biochemistry.
She is the author of more than 110 scientific and methodological publications, including papers indexed in the Scopus and Web of Science databases.
For her scientific and pedagogical activities, she has received numerous awards and acknowledgments. In 2008, she was awarded a Certificate of Merit from the Rector of Zaporizhzhia National University on the occasion of Science Day. In 2009, she received the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine Prize. In 2012, she was awarded a Letter of Appreciation for the high level of organization of the III International Scientific and Practical Conference «Modern Problems of Biology, Ecology and Chemistry» as well as a Letter of Appreciation from the Rector of Zaporizhzhia National University for achieving a prize place in the annual competition «Best Educational and Methodological Development of the Year». She was also awarded a Certificate of Honor from the Department of Education and Science of the Zaporizhzhia Regional State Administration for active participation in the External Independent Testing.
In the 2014-2015 academic year, she received Letters of Appreciation from the Rector of Zaporizhzhia National University for productive work with gifted youth and for participation in the organisation of the IV International Scientific and Practical Conference. In 2015, she became a laureate of the regional competition for gifted youth in pharmacy. In 2017, she was awarded a Certificate of Merit on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Faculty of Biology for her significant contribution to the development of education and the training of highly qualified specialists.
In 2021, she received a Letter of Appreciation and a Certificate of Merit from the Rector for her participation in analytical seminars on typical mistakes applicants make during preparation for External Independent Testing.
In the 2022-2023 academic year, she was awarded a Certificate of Merit from the Head of the District Administration for many years of conscientious work, significant personal contribution to the development of education and science, and the training of highly qualified specialists.
In the 2024-2025 academic year, she received a Certificate of Merit for contributions to the development of science at the university on the occasion of Science Day. In 2025, she was awarded a Letter of Appreciation for her role in developing the Olympiad movement in the Zaporizhzhia region and for her productive work with gifted students.
In 2023, she completed advanced training at the Department of Biological Chemistry of Zaporizhzhia State Medical and Pharmaceutical University under a professional development program (April 17, 2023 – May 29, 2023; Certificate No. 01/2023 dated May 26, 2023).
In 2024, she completed an international online internship on the topic «Formation of Competence and Development of Professional and Pedagogical Mastery of a Teacher», which lasted 6 weeks (February 5, 2024 – March 15, 2024) and amounted to 180 hours (6 ECTS credits). Certificate: Gencheva Viktoriia No. 2024/02/02.
She serves as the Secretary of the Scientific and Technical Council of the Faculty of Biology.
