Lyakh Viktor Olekseevich was born on March 11, 1955. Doctor of Biological Sciences, professor, head of the chair of landscape industry and genetics of Zaporizhzhya National University. Graduated with honors from the Agronomy Faculty of the Odessa Agricultural Institute. The PhD thesis in the specialty 03.00.15 "Genetics" was defended at the special meeting of the Institute of Cytology and Genetics of the Academy of Sciences of the Belarussian SSR (Minsk). He defended his doctoral dissertation in the field of "Genetics" in 1992 in the special council of the All-Russian Institute of Plant Sciences. E. Vavilov (St. Petersburg). The academic rank of professor in the specialty "Genetics" was awarded in 2002 at the Institute of Plant Physiology and Genetics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (Kyiv).
The main scientific interest is in the development of theoretical foundations of breeding, in particular, in the development of microgametophyte selection methods, the bases of mutation selection, the establishment of genetic control of qualitative and quantitative characteristics of agricultural and ornamental plants. The implementation of the developed theoretical foundations into practice has allowed creating competitive varieties of flax of oilseed, mustard and a number of ornamental plants.
Author of more than 300 publications, including monographs Structure and biological activity of steroid glycosides of the spirostane and furostan series (1987), Methods of gamet and zygote selection of tomatoes (1988), New approaches to corn breeding (1992), Methods for selecting valuable genotypes at pollen level ( 2000), Genetic collection of the species Linum usitatissimum L. Catalog. (2003), Botanical and cytogenetic features of species Linum L. and biotechnological paths with them (2008), Induced mutagenesis of oilseeds (2009).
He has 19 security documents for inventions and 46 certificates and patents for varieties and samples of oilseeds and ornamental crops.
He has created a scientific school of pollen selection, which is engaged in the development of methods for selecting valuable genotypes at the microgametophyte level and is the leading in Ukraine, as well as a scientific school of experimental mutagenesis of oilseeds. Within the framework of these scientific areas, 15 candidates and doctors of sciences have been trained.
Member of the specialized academic councils for the defense of doctoral dissertations on specialty 03.00.15 - "Genetics" at the Selection-Genetic Institute - National Center for Seed and Selection Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (Odessa) and the Institute of Plant Physiology and Plant Genetics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (Kyiv).
The Zaporizhzhya Branches of the Ukrainian Society of Geneticists and Breeders and the Ukrainian Society of Plant Physiologists are in charge.
