The opening ceremony of the Literary Competition by Taras Shevchenko was held in in the College of Economics and Law on 18 October.

The event began with the watching of the short film “The Face of Ukrainian History”, which tells about the difficult fate and invincibility of the spirit of the Ukrainian genius T. Shevchenko. After watching the film, the hosts of the event, Yan Shcheblykin and Yuliia Boiko (2 course of the specialty “Social Pedagogy”) congratulated the students, professors, guests with the opening of the competition with the anthem of Ukraine.

 The honorary right to lay flowers on the Shevchenko bust near the 3rd academic building of ZNU was provided to the third-year students Vladyslav Kurylenko, Yelyzaveta Manakova, Andrii Boiko and Sofiia Kravchuk, who demonstrated their deep knowledge in the EIA in the Ukrainian language last year.

Then the floor was given to Olena Hrybanova, director of the College of Economics and Law. She drew attention in her speech to the importance of learning and disseminating the state language. In addition, she noted that it is now fashionable and prestigious to speak Ukrainian, therefore she urged everyone to speak the state language in everyday life. The director paid particular attention to the recent tragedy which happened in Kerch Polytechnic College. She urged not to be indifferent to this grief, because the victims are the same age as many students of our college. She asked everyone to be careful and watch out for the safety around them. A minute of silence present honored the memory of those who were killed in Kerch.

Among the guest of the holiday was the vice-rector for scientific, pedagogical and educational work Oleksandr Hura, he also turned to the students of the College of Economics and Law and conveyed sincere congratulations from Zaporizhzhia national university administration.  He mentioned that such contests provide an opportunity not only to express themselves, but also to check the level of their culture and strength.

Students gathered in this event not only to honor the memory of the great poet, but also to test their knowledge. Therefore, there was also an interactive charging “Literary Descrambler” , moderated by Anna Hrushanska, a professor of Ukrainian language and college literature.

Then the floor was given to Sofiia Kravchuk - the winner of the Ukrainian language competition last year.  Sofiia told about her way to getting this victory.  She noted that success was not given to her the first time, but fruitful work and analysis of past mistakes gave their results.

In order to determine the best experts on the biography of Kobzar, there was held a special quiz, moderated by Anastasiia Stetsenko, a professor of Ukrainian language and college literature.

More than 80 students of the 1st and 2nd year course, were recommended for participation in the qualifying stage of the competition.  They will test their language and literary knowledge and skills on November 7. The jury will check the entries under the guidance of Valentyny Kravchenko, a professor at the Department of Ukrainian Literature.  The student who will get the winning also will take part in the next stages of the competition.
