Names and candles - for eternal memory of victims of the Famine

10.12.2008 12:57

On November, 22 students and lecturers ZNU took part in two All-Ukrainian actions – “33 minutes” and “Light a candle” - to honour the memory of victims of the famine of 1932-33.

On junction of Verhnya Street and Lenin Avenue the last stage of All-Ukrainian action “33 minutes” passed at 9 a.m. Every Saturday in September and November students and schoolchildren read names of victims of the famine of 1932-33 in Zaporizhzhya region, and reminiscences about those hard times, written from words of witnesses. The rector of Zaporizhzhya national university Sergij Timchenko made a speech and told about reminisces of his relatives about the famine. That day the march of sorrow from Shevchenko Boulevard to the monument to victims of the famine was held. The action united over thousand students from all our universities.
