During his lectures and master classes, he shared his experience and thoughts with professors, university students, and Zaporizhzhia specialists, whose professional and creative interests coincide with the activities of the guest.
On March 14, Vakhtang Kebuladze examined the topic “Peculiarities of artistic and scientific translation”. Professor Vakhtang Kebuladze and the head of the Ukrainian Inter-University Shakespeare Center of Scientific Research Department of ZNU Nataliia Torkut briefly acquainted the present with the activities of the scientist and translator.
There was also a presentation of the author’s philosophical books and an autograph session at the beginning of the master class. Among the works that interested the audience was the
book of philosophical essays "Charunky doli" (Meshes of fate), which received Yurii Sheveliov Prize. Vakhtang Kebuladze heads the laboratory of scientific translation of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, and teaches the corresponding special course. Therefore, on this day he shared his own experience with the audience regarding the features of scientific and literary translation and spoke about the projects that the team of Ukrainian translators and scientists embodies.
Moreover, the expert spoke about the experience of the translation of scientific literature in philosophy direction. The journal "Vsesvit" was used as sample of literary translation. The work of publishing houses “Folio” and “Tempora” was used as the example of scientific literature that successfully embodies the tasks of scientific translation.
Also, the guest noted that the translator have to have a lot of knowledge in the scientific field he works in (know the history of philosophy), have a common philosophical terminological apparatus, and be familiar with the best examples of fellow translators. In his opinion, the translation specialist has the right to adapt the text in accordance with the specifics of the language into which the text is translated. Also, the interpreter should be able to find a balance between the scientific and literary style, the most successful relationship between the content of the text and the author's style.
