The solution of methodical, organizational and psychological problems, concerned with this year’s External Independent Rating (EIR), has the paramount meaning for all teachers. Testing in Ukrainian Language and Literature is foremost, because all persons wishing to get higher education had to pass the testing. So, the seminar, organized by the administration of ZNU and the staff of the Philological Department, aroused great interest not only among teachers of our town but all Zaporizhzhja region.

The seminar was opened by the head of the university, Professor Sergij Timchenko. Nowadays, when Universities apply students only according to the results of testing, institutions of higher education have two ways: to stay aside and not to influence the process or to be an active participant and try to engage talented and promising youth. ZNU chose the second way and has an active position in organization and realization of External Independent Rating. The Dean of the Philological Department, Tamara Khom’jak, raised the problem of unreasonableness of some questions in tests. She also payed attention on the methods of effective preparation the pupils to EIR. In order to develop pupils’ skills teachers should start working with tests not only in senior classes. One more peculiarity of our External Independent Rating is integration of testing in the language and literature. In future they may be divided, but now teachers must try to adapt school curriculum to the testing one. Anzhelika Poplavsjka, the representative of the Social Pedagogics and Psychology Department, shared some the simplest ways to help children to overcome the stress during EIR. She also spoke about teachers’ and parents’ role in pupils’ success in testing. The lecturers of the Social Pedagogics and Psychology

Department developed methodical recommendations and are going to spread them among schools of our town and region. Also all persons wishing to try their knowledge in free training testing are invited to ZNU, where this training will take place.

Lubov Stovbur, the Associate Professor of the Philological Department, told about school textbooks in the Ukrainian language, which are not quite qualitative and don’t correspond to all demands. She proposed that teachers who know the process of school teaching in details should create a textbook according to all demands and proposals.

Olesja Slyzhuk, the Associate Professor of the Philological Department, came to the conclusion that school curriculum in Literature is developed worse than in the Language and needs important modification.

Galina Korytsjka emphasized that school curriculum has little time for all material presented in tests of EIR and pupils are not psychological ready for working with such great material.

Oksana Jashhyk gave a list of the most important state documents teachers must be guided in their everyday work.

At the end of the meeting there was a discussion as fore the textbooks in spelling. Such meetings as this seminar will help to solve all problems concerning EIR.
