On May 20 the Faculty of Journalism of Zaporizhzhia National University (ZNU) organized and held an original event within the framework of the Erasmus+ KA2 DESTIN project – «Journalism Education for Democracy in Ukraine: Developing Standards. Integrity and Professionalism». «DESTIN Open Day» is an open day, which aimed to gather online in one place and at one time real and potential participants of the program: faculty members, students, employers (media workers in the region), university applicants, public authorities.

The purpose of the web meeting was to discuss the results of the implementation of the tasks assigned to the ZNU team within the project DESTIN to tell more about the progress of their implementation and to receive feedback from the involved stakeholders.

The meeting began with a welcoming speech by the Dean of the Faculty of Journalism of ZNU Viktor Kostiuk, who drew attention of the participants of the «DESTIN Open Day» to changes in the educational process at the faculty. In particular it was about the modernization of bachelor's and master's programs in Journalism that were adapted to European standards; the introduction of new modules into the study programs and the implementation of a student-centered approach to teaching.

The moderator of the event Deputy Dean for International Affairs of the Faculty of Journalism Katerina Sirinyok-Dolgaryova recalled the history of the DESTIN project, its main tasks and real achievements. The speech was complemented by multimedia presentation, which visualized the chronology of the team's actions: conferences, round tables, development and writing of syllabi, internships, etc.

The organizers of the online meeting presented greetings from their foreign partners. The participants were shown a video recorded by the main coordinator of DESTIN Professor of Bath Spa University (UK) Ian Gadd. In a short video the professor spoke about the achievements of the university teams, reminded that one of the project's objectives is to improve media literacy in Ukraine - that is the team strives to make Ukrainians better understand the national media.

During the Open Day the teachers of the faculty, associate professors of the Department of Journalism Yuliia Liubchenko, Pavlo Miroshnychenko and Iurii Kostiuk, students of journalism educational programs noted the growth of the practical component of journalism education at ZNU welcomed the emergence of a regular surveying among students that allows improving the effectiveness of the educational process.
